Service Project Sign-Up
On April 1, you have the opportunity to sign up with friends to volunteer at locations across Greenville and the upstate. Opportunities are diverse - from pressure washing at a rescue mission to teaching the gospel as you conduct a religious survey in the community.
Please use the Google forms below to sign up. A separate form for each outreach allows you to sign up for whatever service opportunity interests you! CGO staff will monitor the forms and close them when a given activity has reached capacity. We will attempt to honor your requests, but please understand that the CGO may have to reassign you for a variety of reasons.
The CGO may have additional opportunities for students with unique skill sets or qualifications. Come by or email nmauer@bju.edu for more info or if you have a great idea about how you can *Reach Beyond Yourself* in the community!

#1 - Miracle Hill Children's Home (2:00-4:00 PM)
A group of students will organize awesome games and bring a fun snack to share with elementary boys and girls at Miracle Hill's Children's Home in Pickens. Here's a quote from their website: "Miracle Hill Children’s Home continues to be known as a place of refuge for children from birth to age 18. The children’s home was founded in 1958 to care for unwanted, troubled, neglected and abused children who had no place to stay. Of the children we serve, some are born addicted to drugs. Others experience anger and frustration when dealing with issues and problems in their lives. Every day, we offer crisis and long-term care, as well as foster care licensing. In home-style environments with house mentors, children in our care receive personal counseling, food, shelter, education, discipline and unconditional love – all within a Christian framework."
We will have the opportunity to share the love of Christ with these kids through fun and food. Don't underestimate the impact that one afternoon can have in a kid's life!

#2 - Greenville Rescue Mission (10:45 AM to 4:00 PM - includes lunch)
After arriving at the Rescue Mission, volunteers will share lunch with the shelter's guests, then tackle a variety of projects including cleaning, organizing, and possibly some light demolition/building projects.
#3 - Ronald McDonald House - Brunch (8:00-11:00 AM)
The Ronald McDonald House "serves as a home for critically ill or injured children and their families, providing hope, encouragement and comfort when they need it most" (from their website). They are allowing BJU students the opportunity to serve their families by providing brunch for them at the facility. This will be a small group, overseen by a BJU culinary arts student.
#4 - Evangelistic Survey (12:30 PM to 4:30 PM)
Volunteers will drive to Beth Haven Baptist Church in Simpsonville, have a brief orientation, and then go out in groups to survey the community and use the survey to share the gospel. Each person surveyed will answer a list of questions about their view of God, religion, salvation, and Jesus Christ, and then will have an opportunity to listen to the gospel if interested. This activity will be eye-opening and informative, and will give participants an opportunity to share and grow in their faith.
#5 - Piedmont Women's Center - Work Projects (12:30 PM to 3:30 PM)
Piedmont Women's Center is a crisis pregnancy clinic that serves women across the upstate by providing counseling, support, pregnancy testing, and limited OB ultrasounds. BJU groups have frequently helped out PWC with building/grounds maintenance, staffing at banquets, and other tasks as needed. Volunteers will travel to the Grove Road facility to beautify the area by doing outdoor projects like leaf removal. If you're passionate about this ministry, you'll want to sign up!
#6 - Basketball and Bible (10:30 AM to 12:00 PM)
Do you love the gospel, kids, and basketball? Then grab some of your friends and sign up for this outreach! The Basketball and Bible group will travel 15 mins from BJU to a HUD housing area and hold a basketball clinic/tourney with youth in the apartments! Show the love of Christ to kids in need, and then take the awesome responsibility to share with them the most important message in the world - the gospel of Jesus Christ. This will be an awesome time.
#7 - Miracle Hill Boy's Home (10:00 AM to Noon)
Volunteers will will work from 10:00 AM until noon doing landscaping, cleanup, and other projects around Wade Hampton Blvd campus of Miracle Hill Boy's Home. Sign up to help this group improve the home inside and out!
#8 - Miracle Hill Shepherd's Gate (11:00 AM to 3:00 PM - includes lunch)
Shepherd's Gate is a homeless shelter for women, operated by Miracle Hill Ministries. Read this excerpt from the Shepherd's Gate webpage: "Women are part of the fastest growing group in the homeless population. They come to our shelters because of abuse, poverty, abandonment, and/or addiction. While here, clients receive food, shelter, spiritual counseling, access to local human service agencies, educational opportunities, and even more importantly – hope through Jesus Christ." Volunteers at Shepherd's Gate will eat lunch with the ladies and then help sort/organize lots of donated clothes and possibly other items.
#9 - Private Home Service Projects (Time TBD)
Volunteers who sign up for Private Home Service Projects will work at the homes of individual people in need within our community. A local resident may need assistance with yard work, painting, or a construction project. More details and a sign-up list will be forthcoming. Check back later - Thanks!
